MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI, is a diagnostic technique, which provides superior pictures of the body’s internal structures without the use of radiation. These images are produced using magnetic fields and radio waves.

A specific screening form must be completed and checked before entering the MRI suite.

Some MRI exams we perform include, but are not limited to: Brain, Carotids, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, and Extremity exams. MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography), MRV (Magnetic Resonance Venography) and run offs are also available.

MRI is used to identify brain tumors, strokes, nervous system disorders, and disease of pituitary gland, bone and joint damage, injury, infection, tumors and degenerative disorders. MRI can also be utilized to reveal tumors not seen by other imaging modalities, and functional disorders in organs such as lungs, liver, pancreas, kidney and spleen.

Parkway Medical Center has incorporated a remarkable diagnostic tool for helping physicians reach confident diagnoses to provide the best patient care. The Signa HDe 1.5T MR system from GE Healthcare delivers highly detailed images of the human body with high speed, excellent resolution and unique applications.

“Some patients can present special challenges when undergoing MR testing,” says Stacey Miller, Director of Radiology at Parkway Medical Center. “Now, even those who are the most difficult to examine with conventional MR approaches can be easily imaged and diagnosed.”

“One feature of the Signa HDe 1.5T MR system is the ability to do dual breast scanning,” Stacey Miller adds. “In the time it normally takes to image just one breast, we can now image both breasts simultaneously. The system also tolerates patient motion very well during brain scans, which reduces retakes.”

“The addition of the Signa HDe 1.5T MR system complements and extends the range of quality diagnostic services that Parkway Medical Center offers residents of Morgan County,” said Dr. Ann Bignault, Diagnostic Radiologist. “It provides us with excellent image quality and imaging speed, and enhances the overall diagnostic confidence we have in all of our studies.”

The Signa HDe 1.5T MR system is the latest evolution of GE Healthcare’s long line of MR innovations. Originally developed in the late 1970s, from discoveries made in the 1940s, MR scans combine the power of magnetic and radio frequency fields, allowing physicians to view the tissue structure of internal anatomy without exploratory surgery.

MR exams are used when people are ill or injured, or when a physician suspects a medical problem that is not easily detectable from a conventional physical examination. The GE Signa HDe 1.5T MR system non-invasively assists physicians in the diagnosis of a variety of anatomical areas, such as the head, abdomen and chest, including detailed imaging of the vascular system and major organs.
