Central Scheduling
The majority of routine, outpatient and inpatient appointments are made through the central scheduling office. When calling to make an appointment, the following information should be available:
• Patient Name
• Date of Birth
• Home Telephone
• Work Telephone
• Weight
• Diagnosis/Symptoms
• Procedure/Test to be scheduled
• Type of Insurance
• Insurance Policy # (if applicable)

Central Scheduling will request that a doctor's order be faxed or that patients bring the doctor's order with them on the day of testing. Patients who arrive for testing without a doctor's order (written or faxed) may have their test delayed. Confirm the order by contacting the doctor or his/her office.

On the day of the test, patients should visit our Registration office, located in the lobby of the center entrance of the hospital, before going to the appropriate testing area.

Central Scheduling Telephone: (256) 301-3488 or (256) 301-3472. Central Scheduling Fax: (256) 350-4131.

Emergency Services
You do not plan to visit the emergency department. It just happens, and usually when you least expect it. At Parkway Medical Center, we practice a philosophy of emergency care called ER+, which helps further our goal is that you will receive quality medical care as quickly and professionally as possible.

Parkway Medical Center's Emergency Services includes a Level II Emergency Department providing comprehensive emergency, urgent, and trauma care to communities in Morgan and surrounding counties, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Rapid transport of patients via helicopter is available, should the need arise.

In April 2001, Parkway completed new construction of our 7600 square foot Emergency Department. Our new ER houses 12 private treatment rooms, a pediatric waiting room, and specially designed pediatric exam room. Additionally, custom-designed OB/GYN exam rooms allow maximum privacy. A separate bereavement room allows privacy for families. Parkway is also prepared to manage potential industrial accidents with a large decontamination room for treating chemical exposure.

Whether you have a minor injury/illness or a life threatening event, Parkway Medical Center's ER is equipped, ready, and able to meet the needs of your next emergency.

The ER Goal
Our goal at PMC is for you to have access 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, to qualified physicians who take the time to listen to what you have to say. You will be greeted warmly by nurses who are truly compassionate and a registration staff that understands that people come before paperwork.

Our team of trained physicians, nurses and technicians are able to provide fast, quality care. They will listen to you, examine you carefully and prescribe a treatment plan that you will understand and believe in.

At our emergency department, we are committed to providing quality service by meeting the needs of our patients and their families with courtesy and respect. Your emergency experience at Parkway Medical Center should be one of care, concern and attention to your emotional and physical needs. It is our goal not only to meet our patients’ needs, but also to exceed the expectations of the people in the community we serve.

Inpatient Private Rooms
While you are a patient at Parkway Medical Center, we will strive to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

You will receive quality care from a team of dedicated staff. Your room will be clean and tastefully decorated.

Providing you the opportunity to have a private room allows us to ensure the utmost in privacy, confidentiality, safety and security. This lets you rest more comfortably and enjoy any visitors while you get well.

Pediatric Services
The pediatric unit at Parkway Medical Center serves young people age 18 and under and boasts many special touches:
• Colorful private rooms and hallways creating a cheerful environment
• Two adolescent/teen rooms
• Playroom
• Video library and VCR/DVD's in every room
• Two sleeper chairs in each room allowing parents to stay with hospitalized children
• Family refreshment center
• Special menus for kids
• Guest Tray for adults staying with child

All pediatric nurses are Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified and are committed to the care and comfort of the children. Because we know how important it is for children to have a "safe" place to rest and recover, we only perform painful or "scary" procedures, such as injections, in a dedicated pediatric treatment room. This allows the child to always feel safe and secure in his/her room. The nursing staff is trained to make procedures as comfortable and painless as possible. In caring for our pediatric patients, we also allow additional treatment time for nurses to apply medications to numb the skin prior to IV's, and our nurses are certified in the use of local anesthesia.

Parkway's community education program offers Teen Talk and Girl Talk to address the special concerns of teenage girls. For information on exact times and locations, visit our Health Programs and Events section.

• General Surgery - Surgical care of chest, abdomen, and vascular system

• Orthopedic Spine - Surgical care of the spine
• Obstetrics - Surgical newborn delivery (performed in the surgery suite in the Pavilion for Women and Children)

• Urology - Surgical care of the urinary system and the male reproductive system
• Gastroenterology - Surgical and non-surgical treatment of the digestive system
• Podiatry - Surgical care of the feet

Outpatient Surgery Services
Outpatient procedures, especially same-day surgeries, provide a safe, convenient alternative for many tests and treatments that formerly required an overnight hospital stay. Your physician or health care professional can determine if this is an option for you.

The Parkway Medical Center P.A.T. (Pre-Admission Testing) Department helps eliminate delays and decreases the waiting time for you and your family. We obtain your most current medical history and make sure all required labs, tests, and paperwork are in place prior to your surgery.

Parkway Medical Center continually evaluates new procedures to insure we stay on the cutting edge of technology. We offer a wide variety of outpatient procedures that allow you to recover in the comfort of your home.

Pain Management
Parkway Medical Center offers extensive outpatient pain management services under the direction of an on-staff Anesthesiologist. The majority of patients seen for outpatient pain management services have chronic lower back and neck problems with diagnostic evidence of entrapped or pinched nerves. Pain management care is usually sought because these problems have not responded to conservative treatments or the patient has elected not to have corrective surgery.
